What is Astrology? Planets, Signs, Transits and Energetics and How it Applies to You.

Astrology is the body of knowledge that concerns the relationship between the planets and their impact on the human experience. The art form of astrology is knowing how the planets effect human behaviours, personalities, events and identities. Astrology has existed for thousands of year, notably in Babylonian, Hellenistic, Arabic and Renaissance traditions. It continues to evolve and be practiced today across the world.

There are 3 core components

1. Planets: astrology teaches that the planets imprint and emit specific energies and that these emissions cause imprints on the greater whole, including us humans. Planetary movements effect us in two main ways; first the initial imprint we are given at birth, which determines the specific energies of our birth chart (and thereby our personalities), and second, the ongoing transits we experiences throughout life (a well known one being 'mercury retrogrades').

2. Signs: these are the categories that depict the style or expression of planetary energies. The signs are determined by the combination of a planetary ruler, an element (fire, air, water, earth) and a modality (cardinal, fixed, mutable). For example, Aries is ruled by the planet Mars and is cardinal (modality) fire (element). In essence, the signs simply depict the vibe of a planets energy depending on the element and modality through which it is expressed.

3. Houses: are the arenas or subject matter of the human experience and are found in your birth chart. The planets will express their energies - in the ways depicted by the signs - in the houses of the birth chart. More energy flowing through a certain arena of your life (shown in the houses of your birth chart), the more you will feel the energies of that planet + sign in that area of your life.

Birth Chart, Horoscopes, Energy, Transits!?

Lets clear up the two ways astrology is at play in your life. First, your birth chart will indicate where the planets and signs fall in your houses (what energy is touching what subject matter) and therefore the energetic imprint of you that you will always have. Contrast this with the transits - these depict what the planets are doing now or as time goes on. Transits are what create 'horoscopes', usually based solely off your Sun sign. This is why knowing your birth chart well will give you a greater 'horoscope' than simply knowing transits (which don't account for your specific birth chart). Knowing the energetic imprint of you via your birth chart will give you greater clarity and control over your future than only knowing transits (the energy around you but not in you).

The astrology of you (seen in your birth chart) is the map of your energetic blueprint. These are the energies that ultimately make up your 'aura' (the electromagnetic field you emit). By working with and knowing your own map, you can align back to what is true and best for you.
