What is Astrology?

Astrology studies the relationship between the planets and their impact on our personalities, experiences and life cycles. The art form of astrology is interpreting how planetary movements affect human behaviours and identities. It covers several aspects of the human experience including our own personal 'blueprint' shown in our birth charts, daily life themes and even the larger energetic undertones covering the months, years and era's aka the transits.

Think about astrology like a computer file floating in the abyss of your computer. When that file was made, it was imprinted with fixed data that depicts the nature of the file and when, where, how and the general purpose behind why it was made. The original data set is imprinted and unchangeable. However, the file may move from folder to folder, to USB, through different operating systems, in different apps and more. The file may operate or seem different depending on the changing environment of the computer but nevertheless, the data is the same and may thrive better in certain folders or operating systems than others.

Now I want you to consider yourself as a file with your own data set depicted in what we call your 'birth chart'. Your birth or natal chart is essentially the metadata that you were imprinted with at birth. The data may show that you were best suited to a certain application or that you best operate in this or that folder. Your data may depict you clearly as a PNG image file or a distinct MP4 video - the data will indicate such things. Your birth chart does the same for the intricacies of you!

So how do transits work? Well, thats why I mention the movements of the file throughout the computer environment. Continuing on with our analogy, you could liken the planets to different aspects of the computer environment like different operating systems (big scale changes), or different apps and folders (more frequent transits). Your original data set may not work at all in one app but absolutely shines in another. Who is operating the computer and making all the changes? Well that's the kicker that everyone is still trying to figure out - some call it God, the Universe, Allah. All I know is that astrology is the art of understanding how to read 'file' data and predicting how certain file elements will react with certain, predicted planetary (folder) movements.

I promise that's enough of the computer analogy talk! So, your birth chart acts like an energetic blueprint showing different aspects of you such as your core identity, emotional patterns, behaviours, thinking styles and even career direction and personal growth styles. Planetary movements don't necessarily cause events to happen but they do reflect meaningful patterns and timings that we can consciously work with (i.e a folder change doesn't cause a file corruption, but the pattern may be that it does occur with specific data in files, you know? okay that's really it).

So What, Is It?

There's three core components;

1. Planets - astrology teaches that the planets imprint and emit specific energies depending on what they're doing in the sky when you were born and at any given time. The planets indicate the energies or forces we feel in and around us throughout our lives.

2. Signs - these are the man-created categories that depict the style or expression of planetary energies.

3. Houses - these depict the arenas or subject matter of the human experience and are found in your birth chart.

Your birth chart will indicate where the planets and signs fall in your houses (what energy is touching what subject matter). The transits depict what the planets are doing as of any given time stamp.

Astrology has been around historically for thousands of year, notably in Babylonian, Hellenistic, Arabic and Renaissance traditions. It continues to evolve and be practiced today across the world.
